Mold Removal Process

Our mold remediation process is extensive and involves many steps, but the process can be outlined as the following:

Containment – First, the area with mold is contained to prevent contamination of non affected areas with mold spores.

HEPA Air Scrubbing – The air of the affected area is cleaned using air scrubbing machines called HEPA filters. These filters capture 99% of the airborne mold spores that go through the filter. This is done to improve the air quality and prevent the mold from spreading to other areas of the property.

Removal of affected materials – If there are building materials that need to be removed like drywall or insulation, this is done in a controlled manner that prevents the mold spores from being disturbed.

HEPA Vacuum – The contaminated area is vacuumed with a vacuum cleaner with HEPA filters, which captures nearly all the mold spores.

Cleaning – Next, the affected area is cleaned with antimicrobial chemicals to prevent mold growth.

Final Cleanup – The affected area is vacuumed and wiped down with an antimicrobial solution. The containment area is then dismantled, completing the remediation process.

Repair– Any building materials that have been damaged by mold are repaired and replaced.

Where is Mold Most Commonly Found?

Although mold can grow anywhere, there are some areas of buildings where it tends to be more common.

Basements – Basements tend to be dark, poorly ventilated, and damp. This is the perfect environment for mold to thrive. Basements also tend to flood, and if the moisture is completely dried, mold will often start to grow.

Attics – Although mold tends to be more prevalent in the hot and humid summer months, attic mold flourishes during the winter months. When an attic is not sufficiently insulated, warm air from a home’s heating system rises and mixes with the cooler attic air, which creates condensation. Attics should be visually checked for mold a few times a year. A strong, musty smell also indicates that mold is present.

Crawl spaces – Crawl spaces like basements are susceptible to mold growth because the area is often dark and damp. Crawl spaces present the additional challenge of it being a restricted space with little room to move around. This adds to the difficulty of removing mold. A professional mold remediation company will have the necessary experience and equipment to eradicate crawl space mold

Bathrooms – Bathrooms are another space in homes that provide an ideal environment for mold growth due to high humidity. Leaky plumbing fixtures such as toilets, sinks, and pipes can also cause water damage in Rutland and mold.

Kitchens – We have also found that kitchens are a prime spot for mold growth. Malfunctioning domestic appliances like dishwashers and refrigerators that leak many times lead to mold in kitchens.

Why Hire a Professional Mold Remediation Company?

Mold is not only unsightly and damaging to building materials but black mold or mold of any color, can cause health issues for you and your family. It can lead to skin rashes, difficulty breathing, sneezing, allergies and other problems. If you see mold or smell it, it’s essential to hire professionals who have the experience to eradicate the problem. Just using bleach to clean mold often does not solve the issue.
